canon (finally) announces new elphs!

DCResource just posted a press release about the release of the two new *awesome* Canon Elph’s hittin the shelves! I’m really stoked on the SD500… (but I gotta see how much bulkier it is than the SD400), but it looks amazing, so I’m sure I can handle the extra .2″ and go for it anyway. :)

These cameras have this cool new feature that’s not been seen before:

“New My Color feature gives you “virtual” color filters and also allows you to swap one color for another, without ever touching a computer….. Now even the most casual picture-taker can easily opt for verdant valleys of greener greens, juicy apples of redder red, skies and seas of bluer- blue and even add or reduce a little tan to the skin tone as they are shooting. Whether the desired effect is to make the color “more real” or surreal, these digital dynamos are capable of capturing and saving both the original still image and the enhanced color versions as separate files on the camera’s SD Memory Card.”

SWEET!!

And the “14% better battery life” + “50% better flash range” – AWESOME!!

There are may things I’m excited about on these cameras. Don’t worry – I will post another link here when they’re up for sale. I’m a fan! :)

Release dates & prices are waaay at the bottom of the page, so in case you’re looking for it – here: The PowerShot SD400 Digital ELPH Camera will be available in April and the PowerShot SD500 Digital ELPH will be available in March for estimated street prices of $399.99*, and $499.99* respectively.

Well for once we’re more up to date in France!!! The equivalent of the SD500 Digital ELPH which is called Digital Ixus 500 here (and also in the rest of Europe i guess)has been on the shelves for 2 months!!
But I prefer the Minolta X50 which i’find cooler and takes good pics as well. I’ll post them on Flicker allong with my already uploaded NYC pics from my Minolta Dynax 60! BTW you acted fair with your friend Eric!

  2. willo says:

ya, my friend was sending me shots of the Ixus 500 before they finally released the Elph ones…

I checked out your photos, way to take tons of city shots! :) Also, I’ve never been to Paris.. do you like living there?

  3. Jeff says:

Ahem… the IXUS 500 is the old model, equivalent to our S500 Digital ELPH. The European equivalent of the SD500 is the IXUS 700, which was introduced at the same time worldwide. :-)

Yep Jeff, i rejoyced to early,I got confused by the naming!! So i guess we’re still good ole Europe!!!

By the way Willo, yeah I like living in Paris, sort of!! I’ve been living there since I was born (30 years near the eiffel tower). And as always when one’s a local, wherever one lives, one doesn’t appreciate one’s place as much as one should!!!
My first time at the top of the Eiffel tower was 5 years ago!
But even if Paris is really beautiful, I loved the energy you could feel in NYC! It’s a crazy town!!Also as much of my friends in their 20s-30s, I envy the culture of risk taking and entrepreneurship you have in the States!!!Google and Bloggger wouldn’t have been possible in France, even if we have the talent also there!!!A lot of young French go elswhere when they have an idea for a business, to get the means to develop it!!!
Here in France it’s so hard to start a business, a lot of people are afraid of losing their jobs, and a lot of people want everything from the government!!
I have to admit that we’re lucky to have this social safety net (you can get up to 23 month of severance pay), since it’s so hard to find a job, but I would appreciate a little more freedom and a little less tax!!As always the truth stands in the middle!!
Not to much welfare state, but more solidarity than in the states for the weakest!!!As a Frenchman and a European, I was shocked by some sides of the american dream!!
I had the chance to go 4x in the states and once in St louis MO, where I visited the place of a fellow summer camp conselour in a black neighborhood, it was such a ghetto!!
The contrasts are gripping between the successfull and the poors!! I loved every M Moore movies and I would have voted for Kerry with my two hands!!BTW you live in a great country, and I live in a great country too, since it’s mine! ;-)

that is really awesome to hear your perspective, ROD! Fascinating, truly. Glad you’ve gotten to see the US (even the less fortunate side) and glad you are/were pro-kerry :) I hear ya about not appreciating the beauty of where you live. I’m from a beautiful resort town that I can appreciate it’s beauty MUCH more now that I’m grown and moved away. Same w/ San Francisco.. it probably took me a good 6 years living here before I made it to Alcatraz, which is actually VERY cool – and I *still* haven’t walked across the Golden Gate :p

Well shows that we’ve all got something in common!Attention!Prepare to read the most easy phrase or banality, and yet true!!!We’re all human beings!!!
BTW i taged my pics at flicker, so it’s much more than “city shots”.
    BTW2 flickr rocks!!It’s so great!
The “tags” thing is close to the way Gmail and other stuff uses virtual files/categories!!
Hope Google’s gonna buy flickr as it did with Blogger….
Since Yahoo’s movin so fast, and MS’s got tons of money to pour to crush Google, i hope Google’s gonna make a portal thing allong/aside the google page!
    Google+picasa+blogger+gmail+googlenews+googlemaps+flickr+gbrowser?+gIM?=yahoo but x10 better!!

    Sorry I forgot one line!!
Definately, an ordinary SLR makes greater pics than a digital compact!!
Comparing my Dynax60 pics with X50 it’s striking!!!
Hopes Santa’s gonna give me a digital SLR!This stuff gets the best of both worlds!!
